Curious Legends is a vibrant visual theatre company dedicated to promoting theatre and the performing arts within the Australian community. While our company is based in Newcastle, our activities are national and international in scope.
Our members are professional artists who work with Curious Legends on an ongoing basis. Their expertise includes giant illuminated puppets, shadow theatre, site specific performance, outdoor theatre, and large-scale interactive community engagement projects. As part of our work we hold regular workshops for community participants to engage with our professional practice. This includes school workshops, wider community projects, and festivals.

What We’re Looking For
Curious Legends is requesting expressions of interest for three subcommittee members to help us continue to grow and enhance this organisation. The positions would suit dynamic and energetic candidates with a strong commitment to growing the performing arts. We currently have 3 subcommittee roles available – FInance, Governance, and South-East Asia Engagement.
As a whole, the Board is primarily responsible for governing, making strategic decisions and overseeing the stewardship, accountability and leadership of the organisation. A subcommittee position is a highly-rewarding role in a much-loved community organisation, doing fantastic work which we are super proud of. Successful candidates on the subcommittees may have the opportunity to apply for a position on the Board at a later date.
The ideal candidate/s
- A confident and articulate communicator with the ability to liaise collaboratively with members of the Board
- A strategic and innovative thinker who demonstrates experience in corporate governance
- Possesses relevant experience in either HR/IR, Strategic Planning, Legal, Governance/Risk, Government Affairs/Public Policy, Grants or Marketing
- Is able to work in dedicated areas, and feed their expertise back to the board to influence wider policy
- Is able to commit an average of 4 hours per month to the role, remotely.

Duration of appointment
For continuity of the organisation we ask for a commitment from committee members to a minimum one-year term.
The position is an unpaid, voluntary appointment.
