Drama Workshops for Kids on the Autism Spectrum
	Children on the autism spectrum are a special group, with many gifts to share for all of us. Our workshops with these children aim to inspire the creative genius in everyone, exploring the rich tapestry of interaction that theatre offers. Through performance, children are encouraged to work as a group, and express themselves in their own unique fashion. Bookings are open to all children diagnosed with aspergers syndrome or high functioning autism. We aim to hold these workshops throughout the year. Scroll down for more info on current workshops. Stay tuned for future workshop dates. Theatre Crafts Workshop Come share a fun afternoon with us making and performing in our Theatre Crafts workshop. Everyone takes something home they've made, after exploring performance with it! Parents are asked to stay, watch, and enjoy networking with other parents. A fun workshop in a group, come be a part of something special! Masks Workshop Based on performance & masks, this workshop is a whole lot of fun! Learn how to create your very own mask, then perform with it. Each person goes home with a mask they've made, and can perform with! Parents are asked to stay, watch, and enjoy networking with other parents. This workshop has been created in collaboration with Melissa Bryan, an occupational therapist from Crisalida. Curious Legends Theatre Company has been running since 2005, and strives to inspire and delight audiences young and old through performance. Since 2006 we've been creating workshops where children can learn about performing. Some of these are hour long sessions, others last several months. Our philosophy is fun, and showing kids inspiration through performance. In December of 2008 we were asked by a friend to run a workshop at ArtPlay for children with Aspergers Syndrome and High Functioning Autism. Funded by the City of Melbourne and ArtPlay, this first workshop was a success. Seeing how our talents could fill a need, we decided to continue running workshops in this way. In order to gain further insight into the lives of children with Aspergers Syndrome and High Functioning Autism, we began working with Melissa Bryan from Crisalida. An occupational therapist who works specifically with children on the autistic spectrum, Melissa's been a wonderful guide along this track. Some are based around mask-making, while others explore performance and improvisation. All are based around group work, kids interacting with each other, and having lots of fun. Our workshops are self-funded, which means no one else is paying us to run them. Our philosophy is to work closely with children in small groups, with most workshops having a maximum of 15 kids.
